Never has there been a genre of music with so many adorable names -- 8-bit, Chiptune, Bitpop, Nintendocore, Picopop -- all referring to music written in "sound formats where all the sounds are synthesized in realtime by a computer or a video gaming console." Technobabble aside, these songs often sound like awesome remixes of video game music. More recently, many 8-bit artists have been adapting popular music to a digital style, releasing entire popular music albums covered by bitpop artists.

From Daft Punk to Weezer, here is a collection of our favorite 8-bit cover albums.



<<<<< 'Kind of Bloop'(Miles Davis)
Waxy's Andy Baio turned jazz legend Miles Davis' 'Kind of Blue' into an 8-bit masterpiece with 'Kind of Bloop.'

Featuring chiptune artists including Virt, Shnabubula, and Disasterpeace, the project is meant to help show the power of fundraising startup, Kickstarter.



'Da Chip' (Daft Punk) >>>>>
Daft Punk fans & chip nerds freaked when 'Da Chip' was released -- a remix album of a remix album, featuring all 8-bit covers of the electro-duo.

The website of the creators has since disappeared, but the album remains and you can download it (for free!) here.



<<<<< '8-Bit Weezer' (Weezer)
Like Weezer fans weren't nerdy enough: now the famous Blue Album has gotten an even geekier makeover. According to its creators, The Pterodactyl Squad, album has gotten "tens of thousands of downloads" since its release.

'8-Bit Operators: The Music of Kratwerk' >>>>>
Big league 8-bit composer Jeremy Kolosine compiled a group of artists he called as the 8-Bit Operators to come together and record covers of influential German electronic band, Kraftwerk.
