Why drop top dollar to see a Broadway musical when there could be one happening just outside your door? By combining flash mobs with some song and dance, Break Out in Song, brings Broadway to the street and surprises random onlookers to a free show. Shot over four days in New York City, the guerilla-style performances show us what it might be like if everyone actually knew the words to songs... and the dance moves.
If you're not fortunate enough to happen upon a performance, check out the clips below to see Break Out in Song in action -- stay tuned to the Urlesque Twitter because we might have some insider info on where you can catch the next performance!
- "Consider Yourself" in Times Square! (NOTE: Watch dancers almost get arrested by a not-in-on-the-joke cop.)
- "Anything Goes" on the Intrepid!
- "Don't Rain On My Parade" in the South Street Seaport!
- "If My Friends Could See Me Now" at the Time Warner Center!
- BONUS: Our friends at Rocketboom have an interview with creator Ryan Mackey, who gives the lowdown on how to create one of these darn things. It's like a DVD extra for the web!

Everyone should start their day with a "musical". What fun. Excellent way to get people to realize how much talent is out there on the streets. May Broadway live forever....

I grew up with the wonderful musicals of the 40's and 50's. I absolutely loved them. Then they stopped making them because some people thought they weren't realistic. Who spontaneously breaks out in song, and knows the words and dance routines? Come on! They must have thought that people who watched musicals actually believed this was 'real'. Then came the 'realistic' movies. The ones where people walk away from explosions and horrendous car/train/plane wrecks, stay underwater for much more than 3 - 4 minutes. Then the best of all was the fighting while in mid-air. Which genre had you walking out of the movie theater with a smile on your face? Thank you for showing this on You Tube. I will probably never have the opportunity to see these wonderfully talented people in person, but I really enjoy them on my computer.

So very extraordinary! So wonderful! This is the essence of the pure joy of performance -- its humanity, elevated; its joy, shared. It is the gift given to us all by those who perform. It is their "why" and our extraordinary blessing.

On a very hard day, you made me smile. I enjoyed watching them all. Have you ever thought of doing this in smaller towns? Possibly in Appleton, Wisconsin? Continue to make us smile.
