Totaling 4,816 separate stills, the video for We Have Band's "You Came Out" looks like one of the most intrinsically painstaking processes any artists have ever gone through for the sake of supplying a kick-ass beat with an even more kick-ass video (albeit one that is, at points, moderately terrifying).
Every frame in the video was "hand-painted, shot, wiped off and redrawn, slightly differently for the next frame in order to create a seamless sequence." Every. Single. Frame. In fact, the entire process required band members to lie still in a studio for two days in a row.
As described on the band's YouTube page:In order to animate the singing bit, lip movement was created by animating a painted mouth on the singer Dede. This involved breaking the lyrics into phonetics and giving each sound a specific mouth shape.
To make this as realistic as possible all the mouth shapes were painted on Dedes face individually and then shot.
Remember when everyone was drooling all over their Umbros when Michael Jackson made that expensive video where he played Space Ping Pong with his sister? Yeah, times have changed, y'alls!
