Finding romance these days isn't easy -- especially when you have better things you should be worrying about. That's why I'm beyond moved (way more than 140 characters worth) by this Twitter love story that comes with an added twist.
Two bloggers united by Twitter might sound a bit cliché by now, but it's not, seeing as they both happen to also be homeless. Blogger Matt Barnes helps run Homeless Tales and Street Voices -- both online projects dedicated to giving voices to homeless people around the globe -- as well as tweets about his own experiences living on the streets. As he was sifting through a slew of tweets in a search related to the homeless, he came across the first online 140 character uttering by Twitter user, tGGtH -- or Brianna, a blogger who writes for The Girl's Guide to Homelessness. Matt became her first follower and quickly fell head-over-heels in love with the blogger he found to be "engaging and witty," not to mention was dealing with many of the same issues he dealt with daily. I'll let you read the rest of Matt and Brianna's story over at Homeless Tales, but let's just say that I have a renewed love for Twitter and you should too.

if anyone actually read the article before commenting, it does say that they are both writers for different online blogs aimed at different homeless groups. if someone has asked a homeless person to write a blog, it is also likely that they made sure those individuals had the necessary equipment to do so. many homeless shelters also provide access to computers to help them find jobs and learn career skills.

I agree, public library has internet access... and cell phones aren't that expensive anymore. Some are as cheap as 10 bucks.

My daughter and I are on the edge of falling into the homeless category because of some negative choices in both our lives. Thanks to a good friend who put us up in a motel room for a week ... here we are three weeks later still in that hotel room but a bit closer to our goal which is getting back into that home we were locked out of. Once we are back "home" we're not planning to remain in that environment. We've got much better things to do minus that negative baggage and dammit I think we can make it - not to the tippy top of that 21st century mountain - but there is a ledge there for us. I think. Positive attitude here is rampant and high. I think taking my laptop along with another days worth of clothes was a wise last second decision. I forgot my hair brush but I brought my deodorant and my meds - I'm on disability and there is NO mercy whether I have two legs or none. No hair dryer and no mousse ... this is roughing it in fashion - there isn't a worthwhile bridge to move under at this point. PASP hide there.
The most painful part of these days in ourlives is my entire family has turned their back on the two of us. When they needed something I made sure I was there offering help - an ear or handful of food or cash. I paid electric bills and phone bills for others so there would not be a jeopardy of that parent losing custody of his son. Another fell down some icy steps and broke a couple ribs. I handed them $500 because they have four sons to take care of and the helath insurance wasn't kicking in much needed dollars for heat and food. I am asking for that $500 tomorrow. We need it. Desparately. My daughter has an IQ of over 136. She is so worth it I am so happy and proud of her. Anyway ... that old saying where you thought you had it bad until you found someone else had it much worse ... I'm staying as positive as I can. I did a singing infomercial sort of thing on a bowl I just bought from BIGLOTS - and a box of iodized salt is only an additional 35 cents!!! It got rave reviews from my one person audience - that daughter of mine. Say a prayer if you're so inclined but I'd much rather smile. ;)

Wow, I swore to ignore asshole-ish comments, but Dave, I gotta hand it to you, you're making me break it.
So, for people like Dave, who haven't actually read the article before saying something completely asinine... Both Matt and I work. I actually have two jobs right now and am adding a third. Prior to being laid off and losing my home this year, I was an Executive Assistant at a major company, pulling in a nice chunk of change to babysit CEOs and VPs.
Oh, and Dave? An IUD prevents the "bastard child" issue nicely. You're a real dick to assume that all homeless are pissing away your tax dollars, when the vast majority of them are like me, trying to get ourselves out of it and blend in, in the meantime. I've never been on welfare, I don't panhandle, I've never taken an illegal drug in my life, and I work my arse off to reverse my situation.
Cheers!
~Bri
P.S. Kids aren't in my super-immediate future, but were I to have one, someone like you would be the absolute last person I would name my child after, or trust my child to go near. People like you spread poisonous ideas and stereotypes, rather than doing what you can to address and combat the root causes and issues.

Again I will comment. Because once again I can not stand the BS thoughts that are comming out of peoples heads. I would like to ask people like Dave, and others like him... Who the hell put you in the place that you think you can judge others. What would you do if one day you ended up in their situation. No one asks for it. Nobody wakes up one day and says wow I think I am going to give up everything and be homeless. You deal with what you are dealt sometimes good sometimes bad. These people (yes they are people, human beings with blood that runs through them just like you or me) have hit hard times. And if you read through the article on the link provided it says right there that she is employed. He lives in another country and is also employed. Just because they are homeless does not mean that they do not have jobs, does not mean that they do not deserve self respect, and sure the hell does not give one the right to judge them or make idiotic comments about them. Everyone on this earth has a purpose a reason that they are here. Maybe just maybe they are here to teach all you under educated ass holes a thing or two about the true meanings of life. And another thing who the hell has the right to say who can or can not fall in love?
