No, that's not a portrait of Latoya Jackson and her prized thoroughbred (although that's what I imagine it to be.) Perhaps to your surprise, this painting is currently hanging in a museum. Now, don't rush to the Guggenheim just yet, you art-lover, the museum you're looking for is slightly off the beaten path... Off the beaten path of general good taste in art. This painting lives in the Museum of Bad Art, or MOBA -- "the world's only museum dedicated to the collection, preservation, exhibition and celebration of bad art in all its forms."
You can visit the museum in my hometown of Boston, MA, where it presents the Museum of Fine Art with some serious competition. We've included a couple of our favorite animal portraits below, all of which are bound to become masterpieces in their own right.
- Entitled "Dog," this yellow-eyed mutt was donated by Elizabeth and Sorn Poeckle of Copenhagen, Denmark.
- "Peter the Kitty" (who kind of has some human features, don't you think?) was acquired from Salvation Army Thrift Store by Scott Wilson.
