In this "exothermic product favored reaction" (think something like spontaneous combustion) between sucrose (the sugar in the gummy bear) and molten potassium chloride (a salt commonly used in fertilizer), a large amount of energy is released, as well as a demon.


I'm not trying to say anything bad about my high school science teachers, but maybe -- just maybe -- if we'd done this flaming gummy bear experiment instead of spending all our time doing lame labs that never produced the right results - well maybe then I'd be a scientist now and not someone who looks for videos of flaming gummy bears on the Internet.
