Aside from puppies and babies, you know what the internet is really all about? Nostalgia. Whether it's posting a screenshot from a classic film, reminiscing about old cereal brands, or connecting with strangers over a shared interest in The Muppets, one of things I enjoy the most about the web how easy it is to Google something you just can't quite remember, and immediately finding someone who knows exactly what you're talking about.

That's why I've collected my favorite interweb collections of vintage photography -- ones that you can contribute to because that's what the internet's all about.

  • While Family Portraits may be of the single-serving Tumblr variety, we won't hold that against it. The site collects and displays the carefully scanned-in family portraits which used to live only as mounted behind fireplaces and on bedside tables, but now can live forever as 1s and 0s online.

  • I don't know where Dork Yearbook gets its amazing submissions, but these are definitely the kind of people I hung out with in elementary school and still hang out with today.

  • I must admit, I'm not new to the world of online vintage photo collections. I've personally contributed to the field with my own site, We Have Lasers!!!!!!! (number of exclamation points undetermined) -- which collects submitted laser portraits and displays them for the world to mock their 80s hairstyles.

  • There is nothing better than a truly spectacular Flickr Pool. That's why, when I discovered "Souvenir Photos," I was floored. Between the family heirlooms and found images, there is so much here to try and figure out -- like, where can I find these totally NSFW souvenir cutouts for my next bat-mitzvah?
  • EDIT: I love that you guys comment with suggestions for things I've missed! Commenter Gabriel mentioned the Shorpy Photo Archive -- which is chock-full of incredible vintage imagery.
