Urlesque counts down the top 100 viral videos in the history of the web.
We sometimes forget that people use YouTube as a way of communicating with their friends and family living far away – in this case, Harry and Charlie's godparents who live stateside. The camera was left on the boys as they interacted, and the magic just happened.

Why have people been so entranced by this vignette? It comes down to timing. So much happens in a very short time. In just 56 seconds you get:
  • Kid with English accent (that always kills)
  • Brothers who obviously adore each other, even in hardship (there's biting)
  • A baby looking like an old man
  • No camera movement
  • No interaction from the parents
  • Completely unforced
  • A moment in time that will never be duplicated
  • A baby looking straight in the camera and tapping into our souls

Says the boys' mother:
Even had I thought of trying to get my boys to do this I probably couldn't have, neither were coerced into any of this and neither were hurt (for very long anyway). This was just one of those moments where I had the video camera out because the boys were being fun, and they provided something really very funny.
The rest of the boys' videos are cute but don't really capture a moment like the classic sequence. However, their mom points out that the original video is Charlie actually biting his own finger.

As is usually the case, the video has had endless remixes and parodies [click here for some of our personal favorites]. Below are a few more:

  • The Techno-Mix:

  • The 'OC – Dear Sister' Spoof:

  • Two Girls Lip Synch 'Charlie Bit Me'

Also worth checking out is the family's appearance on the 'Richard & Judy' morning show on UK television. They go through the usual explanation and pleasantries, but the moment of zen hits when the hosts attempt to reenact the video. Please note the screengrab below:

Bonus Fact: The video is actually called "Charlie Bit My Finger - Again!" because there was an earlier video in which Charlie bit his own finger.
