A long time ago in, like, the early 2000's, a comedian could get away with saying anything he wanted in a live show (unless, of course, it was being recorded with his permission). Then along comes the cell phone video camera, and Seinfeld's Michael Richards goes from being one of the most beloved TV actors, to being run out of town. When Richards verbally attacked some hecklers during an LA comedy show, things went awry when he brought "race" into the rant. Unfortunately for him, an audience member caught the rant on cell phone video, gave it to TMZ and the rest is history. Because of that rant, one might say that a quiet night at a comedy club could potentially turn into a national discussion, and therefore, it's possible for everything a person of notoriety says to become "on the record".
The embattled comedian made a very awkward apology on Late Night With David Letterman (introduced by a very uncomfortable Jerry Seinfeld) and was met with misguided laughter from the audience. For the most part, little has been heard from Richards since.

It is amazing that a guy losing his temper at a repeatedly disrespectful heckler is the bad guy. If you are going to repeatedly be a jackass during a comedy act, I don't think you get to take issue with the nature of a comedians response like you are a victim. People that live in glass houses really should not throw stones.

But still, a person's race should have nothing to do with the fact that they are a heckler. Comedians get heckled. It's a fact of life. Richards was wrong because he brought race into the mix.

The real saying is.
People who live in glass houses should not worry about being watched ".
Yet as I have found, there is lots more out there, Inc.

People who live in glass houses should not leave the bathroom door open “.
People who live in glass houses should never lie not being home “.
People who live in glass houses should never feel alone “.

i agree he should have never brought race into it and i thought his apology was a little weak. He was talking about trying to make the situation better by "being spontaneous" but he could have just apologized right there! When they started to leave he could have said "Hey man your right it was uncalled for" but he didnt he made it worse!
