While it might not be the newest trend, we've been seeing a lot more online buzz surrounding some of the amazing performances that can be found on the YouTubes of various pop songs in Sign Language.
Whether they be projects for American Sign Language classes or full out music videos, these performances are intriguing, entertaining and a welcome addition to the masses of horrible karaokeing YouTubers.
Maybe you'll even pick up something! If you know one word in ASL, let it be "womanizer."
- YouTuber user allyballybabe (who is hearing) and friend perform along with a duet by Jason Mraz and Colbie Caillat. Syncrhonized ooos make it more adorable than the real thing.
- Michael DiMartino (or MichaelDiMartino) is hearing, from Brooklyn, and takes on Britney... with his shirt off.
- YouTuber jneiderer, aka Jeremy Neiderer, is deaf and performs sign songs as "Lil Jer." He's done everything from Backstreet Boys to Jennifer Lopez, but we're particualary infatuated with his take on Usher's 'My Boo.'
- One of my personal favorites, and a popular one on the Tubes (with over 200,00 views!) is st0rmfx's take on Marilyn Manson's 'The New Sh*t.' Bjorn Storm is an interpreter whose make-up and interpretation is freakishly awesome -- even if you aren't a Manson fan.
- OK, I'll admit this isn't as high quality as the rest, but everyone needs a little practice. And why not test out your signing skills along with a little Christina Aguilera. mutantmeat's interpretation is slow, but meaningful. (Please also check out his performance to Shakira's 'Hips Don't Lie.')
- Sia's gorgeous song, 'Soon We'll Be Found' features so many signing hands! Watch as she walks through a forest of signs...
- Last, but certainly not least, you knew we had to have 'Single Ladies' somewhere on this list. Visual Music Project Campaign (or YouTube user vestibeats), does a fantastic sign/dance performance of the Internet's favorite song.
