Four years ago, there was no such thing as YouTube. Online videos came in the form of QuickTime files that often took a long time to load. And if you, like me, were already a couple of years behind, technologically speaking, your computer's reaction to playing videos was probably somewhere along the lines of, "Yeah, sure, I'll play a video. You want me to drive you to the airport while I'm at it?"

At the time, writer and comedian Julie Klausner beat the rest of the Internet to cat humor by creating Cat News, the Original Gangsta of LOLcats. A parody of a news report as delivered by Klausner's very own feline friend, Smiley Muffin, the three-part series delves into the mind of an ordinary cat whose "top stories" involve all the things you might expect (or not): briefs on milk, paw pads, and canaries.

Sure, cats now has their cheezburgers, but once upon a time, they were all about covering the kitty beat.
