Apparently Aussies do not take kindly to being "duped" by viral marketing campaigns.

Recently, a website called www.maninjacket.com sprung up with a video message from a way-too-attractive blond girl supposedly looking for a guy she had seen in a cafe. The man was apparently wearing a tuxedo jacket, which he left at the cafe after talking with her -- so she kept the jacket and used it to search for her find her prince charming, natch.

It all seemed so over the top and, well, done. And then suddenly, shortly after it's initial buzz, the site was taken down. Why, you ask? Because nobody bought it.

The Sydney Morning Herald reported:

Heidi Clarke is a fake. The woman behind an apparently romantic quest to find a man she met at Jet Cafe Bar in the city was an actress hired for a viral marketing campaign to promote a jacket.

In fact, Clarke has become somewhat of a pariah in her home country of Australia, whose people have become less and less amused by such viral marketing stunts.

But wait -- the plot thickens!

You may recall The Best Blogging Job In The World? Well, a viral marketing video by Tourism Queensland related to the ad has also generated a great amount of controversy down under.

Sheesh guys, at least admit it was fun while it lasted!
