Scrabble Turns 60, Gets a Fancy Commercial

Whether it's family board game nights or those bygone Scrabulous tournaments on Facebook, most of us have had a little Scrabble-fun in our lives.....

And now the beloved board game is celebrating its 6th decade! To help honor the obsession of competitive wordsmiths everywhere, web-based ad group, PES, has created a fun little stop motion spot for Scrabble's 60th Anniversary.

If this video feels a little familiar, it's probably because the same group has created other super-snappy stop motion ads on the web for companies like Sprint and Bacardi. The group's short film, "Western Spaghetti," even won the distinction of "Number Two Viral Video of 2008" by TIME Magazine.

Scrabble. Stop-motion web videos. This is one nerdtastic birthday party!

The tiles should rebel against the ugly new board color scheme...orange and green, 2W2T (What Were They Thinking)?!!?

Many Many years ago, I wanted a Scrabble game for my birthday and hinted HEAVILY to my husband (of the time) - of course I wasn't very specific, and I DID get the game ~~ only the Travel Version, not the deluxe version I was looking for! (OOPS! - later found out my husband had a good spoken vocabulary, but didn't play the game well at all -- sigh) Gave the travel version to friends.... Love this game!

Cute little piece. Scrabble is my favorite game of all times. I even had a club when I was teaching. My daughter and son and I play regularly. But I will play solo if I have to. Always looking for new players. Congratulations on your 60th birthday. Just five years behind me (smile).
