More and more, we aren't recognizing artists for what they're painting -- we're freaking out about what artists are painting on. A framed masterpiece is nice, but a grizzly bear you painted on a turkey feather is sweet. To further accentuate the distinction between a traditional canvas and a ZOMG evoking stand-in, we've curated an exhibit of sorts of our 15 Favorite Painted Things. Hands, teeth, coffins and guns, television sets etc. -- prepare the FW e-mail, you guys.
Painted Cats
- Geniuses Responsible - Burton Silver and Heather Busch, authors of Why Paint Cats: The Ethics of Feline Aesthetics
- Boo Cuz - Says one book critic, "I thought the pictures were hideous ... Cats with their natural colours are beautiful in themselves."
- Cheer Cuz - Purple cats + all the other colors in the rainbow x America = awesome? (And yes, some are obviously Photoshopped.)

THESE CATS HAD TO HAVE BEEN TERRIFIED OR SUBDUED AND AND AT MOST HUMILIATED. IS THERE ANY WAY WE CAN FIND THESE PEOPLE AND PAINT THEIR BUTTS
THEY DO NOT LOVE THEIR PETS AND BY THE LOOKS IN THE EYES OF THESE CATS THE FEELING IS MUTUTAL

That is so wrong -- you should never over expose your animals to unneccessary chemicals and dyes just for human amusement! That's just horrible and is abuse!!! NONE of them would ever find it a pleasant experience, don't kid yourself -they are being betrayed, traumatized and poisoned by this disgusting practice - this should as illegal as doing it to a human child. I also happen to know that people who do this spend TENS OF THOUSANDS of $$ a MONTH on touch ups( !!) and up keep with this --On top of all else, how could they waste this kind of money on such a frivolous abusive practice when there are homeless starving animals and people who could be HELPED instead ?(Hey, if they want to throw their money away why not throw it where it'll do some actual GOOD)?!? Argh!

maybe the owners of the cats should have their behinds tatooed with the word MORON,or a BIG AB on the forehead for animal abuser.

You people who complain about this are the same idiots who voted for Obama! Why don't you find something better to do with your time. Like hanging yourselves!

I think its wrong to dye animals, maybe they have done it without meaning to hurt them but it should be a law against it. 1st time a warning, 2nd Huge fine to the Spca and after that jail..
Yes I voted for OBAMA and your point?
by:// lavelda1957 - Dec 5th 2008
John, you are an idiot! Obviously you know nothing about animals or how to treat them! It has been said that you can judge a nation by the way it treats it's animals and because of people like you, America is pretty well screwed! Do us all a favor and please do not produce any offspring!

Please report these Wingnuts to the spca , If you can do this to a helpless animial , what would you do to a child, Humans leave the planet!
by:// zocchc - Dec 5th 2008

by:// zocchc - Dec 5th 2008

by:// gail - Dec 5th 2008

This is disgusting. Why would someone do such a thing? I feel bad for these poor animals. They could have been poisoned or seriously hurt. These people are idiots and should die a painful death.
by:// Gizmo - Dec 5th 2008
You people are nuts, and need to be reported to the spca.
by:// marl - Dec 5th 2008
Those aren't real pictures. Go to snopes and search "painted cats" it's from a book and those are all photo shopped.

I own this book, and after looking through it I decided to try it on my cat. I found somone who would do it for a relatively inexpensive charge.
My cat looks AMAZING! and doesn't mind it at all; At first he was a little squirmy about it. But now he looks forward to the touch ups and seems more up-beat and happy afterwards, like he's proud of his new fancy look. That's how I know I'm not hurting him. The dyes are totally organic and natural!

Hope these ARE Photoshopped; if they aren't, yes, the people who painted them should be required to undergo some intensive courses in humane education, to learn about cats, and to be instructed in that very rare value, COMPASSION. And yes, cats are the most gorgeous living beings ever, without doing a thing. That's why artists have celebrated their beauty for thousands of years. If someone is already perfect, they don't need any improvement!

I'd like to talk to an animal expert about the chemicals. If it's not harmful to the cats I don't find it abusive. Just stupid.

In the State of Florida, there is a law BANNING any artificial coloring of an animal.
I believe this was originally done to protect the "Easter Chick" pet gifts. Those chicks are sprayed a tint of yellow to promote their sale.
by:// karenclark32722 - Dec 5th 2008
There is no reason to do this to any animal! They no say in the matter and worse of all they TRUST their masters to take care of them. I would never do this to a child to make them "cute and stand-out" so why do it to a trusted companion? Although right now my pug is driving me crazy and black doesn't sound bad (just kidding) Back to the issue, it should be banned. Simple as that.
