Arguably, it all started when a collegiate a capella group arranged a medley of the music from Super Mario Brothers and accompanied it with a Mario mimic collecting coins and pouncing Goombas.


Hearing the midi-inspired tunes so quickly catapult us back in time to the lazy days of 8-bit plumbers rescuing sparkly princesses. Yes, even an a capella group -- clad in requisite two-toned business casual and reeking of cheesiness -- can make us giddy when we're treated to a new generation's definition of "the classics."
