Just some info for those who become smitten by these guys, and are thinking maybe they’d like one. There’s a lot of work involved with raising a litter of puppies, and it’s the Breeder’s responsibility to be certain they all go to appropriate homes. Shibas are a fairly healthy Breed, but they can still have Hereditary problems such as Hip Dysplasia, Subluxating Patellas, PRA, Glaucoma, Seizures, you get the idea. They are also a breed that is VERY independent, and has very selective hearing, especially when it comes to coming when called. Shiba puppies are the cutest little buggers you’ll ever see, but they can be a handful to raise and train. They learn how to push all your buttons, and then look at you with that cute innocent little face. Do yourselves, and the Breed, a favor, if you’re really interested in the Breed RESEARCH IT first. Talk to reputable Breeders. Go to the National Shiba Club of America website. The more informed you are about the Breed, the happier the experience of owning one of these guys will be. A reputable Breeder will be there for you for the life of your “friend”
