While How I Met Your Mother star Neil Patrick Harris is no stranger to internet antics, as of late, things have taken quite a turn for the... musical.
First, he made his debut in the Joss Whedon (of Buffy The Vampire and Firefly cult fame) web trilogy, "Dr. Horrible's Sing-A-Long Blog." What starts as parody of the typical video blog (with a world domination twist) turns into a musical romp detailing Neil as the title character, Dr. Horrible, and his quest to join the Evil League of Evil and win the heart of his Laundromat lady love, Penny (Felicia Day). Written during the writer's strike, the show is just as Whedonesque as Joss' previous fandom-spurning works, and Neil is the Buffy of our time, albeit one aiming for chaos instead of vampire-slaying. While it's no longer available for free viewing, it's worth every penny of your $1.99 an episode on iTunes. Or there's a trailer:
But just when you were recovering from Neil's first musical power-punch, he delivers another in a teaser clip released online by Sesame Street in anticipation of their 39th season. In the whimsical promo, Neil takes a turn as the Shoe Fairy, complete with magical fairy wings, a dapper suit and glitter. There's even a tap-dance break mid song. All the Street regulars get new shoes and a dose of the Neil Patrick Harris song-and-dance, laughing delightedly as he disappears in a cloud of glitter. These things often come in threes, so we're patiently awaiting Neil to make a web version of High School Musical. Tweens are the only audience he's missing!
