6. Jonathan Coulton: No Strings Attached

  • Who? A friend of writer/blogger/PC Guy/Daily Show correspondent John Hodgman is a friend of ours, especially when that friend is musician Jonathan Coulton. A former software writer, Coulton has been called representative of the future of recorded music by figuring out how to use Web 2.0 as a means of garnering publicity and maintaining a relationship with his fan base without having to depend solely on MySpace. And, of course, his "stunts" feel more organic and less desperate than the commonplace attempt to simply "go viral." Instead, Coulton relies on using technology as a means of communication -- a wise move that has even gotten him noticed by something called a newspaper.
