We've all read countless words on how technology can democratize information, and how new technologies can democratize old technologies, but rarely does the trend show up as starkly as in a homeless blog (hobolog? digital bindle?). Whatever you want to call it, master_jim2008 in Mount Shasta, CA is making the medium his own. From his about description:
55 yr old, laid off forklift operator, now living in my car, WITH a broken arm to boot. I have a job waiting for me in North Carolina, but getting gas money to get there will be tough. Anyone want to help?
Now he's posting about each day of his trials and tribulations for the whole internet to read (see his post archive here, or start reading at "homeless, day 1"). So next time your friends post screeds about her parents not understanding how important field hockey is to her, or how his girlfriend won't stay together with him for fall break, just direct them towards this guy. Hopefully they'll think harder about what "mood: depressed" means, or at least reconsider which of their hardships are actually blogworthy. Hey, we can dream, right?
