You may remember Alaska Senator Mike Gravel as the crotchety old man who wandered onto the stage of the Democratic debates and claimed to be running for President. But with the help of the latest Obama Girl video, Gravel has re-invented himself as the rare crazy political coot who actually has his finger on the pulse of modern coolness.


Al Gore may have invented the internet, but this guy is unlocking its full potential. In the course of this two minute video, Gravel proves he's got net-cred in spades by:

  • mentioning the phrase 'YouTube celebrity'
  • showing an understanding of the word 'blog'
  • doing the Soulja Boy dance
  • blatantly checking out Obama Girl's ass (1:00)
  • repping his never-updated Twitter page

It may not be long 'til the netroots start clamoring for an Obama-Gravel ticket, but don't bet your gas tax holiday savings on it. Apparently Gravel switched his party affiliation to Libertarian a month ago, ensuring that his bid for the White House can continue forever, like the ripples in the lake he recently threw a large rock into. He's come a long way since those peaceful days of experimentation and inner reflection. Well done Senator - the internet salutes you.
